1810s The following advertisment appeard in The Manchester Mercury on Tuesday December 9th 1817. It followed on from Ellis Needham being declared bankrupt in 1815. To
be sold by auction at the Eagle Inn Buxton on the 23rd January 1818 at
3 o'clock by order of the Assignees of the estate and effects of Ellis
Needham a bankrupt.
Lot 1. All that copse meadow containing 4 acres of rich land or upwards, well fenced commonly called by the name of the Slack meadow situate in the township of Litton now in the possession of Mr Ellis Needham and also all the ten cottage houses erected and built thereon with the gardens belonging thereto. The above premises are about a mile and a half from the town of Tideswell and are near several large Cotton Manufacturers where cottages are much wanted. The cottages are firm and substantially built of stone and slate and are in excellent repair and let to good tenants. Lot 2. All those two Closes or Fields containing 20 acres or upwards, of good pasture land commonly called or known by the name of the Lees situate in the Township of Taddington. Lot 3. All that large building or Erections situate in Taddington ..... ...... land with the Yard and Appertenancies thereto belonging, and which was built for and has beeen hitherto used as an Apprentice House; also in the possession of Mr Ellis Needham. The Purchaser of this lot must take the Fixtures in the Building at a valuation.
